5 Ways to use Altar Oil in your practice
5 Ways to Use Anointing & Altar Oil in Your Practice
1. Dress Your Candles Before lighting a candle for spell work, anoint it with oil to increase the manifestation of your desires through sacred fire. Apply the oil from the centre outward to draw things in, or from the centre inward to banish and release. Roll it in dried herbs afterwards for extra potency.
2. Consecrate Your Tools To anoint an altar tool, place a small amount of oil on your fingertip and run it gently over the item — along the edge of a blade, the rim of a chalice, the back of a tarot card. You don't need much. Hold your intention clearly as you do it. This marks the tool as sacred and dedicated to your practice.
3. Anoint Your Body Apply a few drops to your wrists, temples, or the back of your neck to strengthen your personal energy field. Choose your oil by intention — lavender for calm and clarity, rosemary for protection, cinnamon for energy and manifestation. Always patch test first and make sure your oil is diluted in a carrier oil before applying to skin.
4. Empower Written Petitions Drop oil onto written petitions or bay leaves to help speed up manifestation. Whether it's a letter to the universe, a spell written in your grimoire, or a simple intention on paper — a drop of the right oil charges your words with energy before you burn, bury or release them.
5. Bless Your Home & Sacred Space Dress your altar with oil to ensure safety and consecrate it with the intention that only positive, loving energies will manifest there. You can also anoint doorframes, windowsills and thresholds to create a protective boundary around your home. A little goes a long way.
